BREAKING 🚨
Kazakhstan Bans Face-Covering Veils in Public Places 🇰🇿
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has officially signed a bill into law banning clothing that obstructs facial recognition in public areas, effectively restricting the wearing of face-covering veils.
The law cites security and public order as its main justification, stating that garments that interfere with facial identification will not be allowed in public.
This move follows a growing trend in Central Asia’s Muslim-majority nations:
🔹 Tajikistan banned the hijab officially in 2024
🔹 Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have introduced similar regulations in recent years
Human rights advocates and religious groups have expressed concern over rising restrictions on religious expression in the region.
