📄U.S. President Donald Trump has reaffirmed his claim that American airstrikes in June completely destroyed Iran’s nuclear facilities, countering recent media reports that suggest otherwise.

In a post on Truth Social on July 19, President Trump declared, “All three of Iran’s nuclear sites (bombed on the 21st of last month) were completely destroyed,” adding that “it will take them years to rebuild.” He further remarked that “if Iran wants to start again, it would cost less to build three new sites elsewhere.”

Trump’s latest comments appear to respond directly to an NBC News report on July 17, which cited internal U.S. intelligence assessments indicating that while the Fordow enrichment facility was severely damaged, Iran’s nuclear sites in Natanz and Isfahan were not entirely destroyed. According to those assessments, Iran could potentially resume uranium enrichment at those locations.

President Trump had previously warned on June 25 that the U.S. would strike again if Iran attempted to rebuild its nuclear capabilities.

The NBC report also aligns with recent Israeli assessments, suggesting that portions of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile were shielded from the strikes. These stockpiles were reportedly kept in deep underground vaults inaccessible to conventional airstrikes.

On July 10, The New York Times reported that U.S.-Israeli coordinated strikes failed to eliminate some of Iran’s underground uranium caches and that Iranian nuclear technicians retained access to them.

Analysts interpret Trump’s assertive tone as part of a broader strategy to frame the June strikes as a definitive national security success and to bolster U.S. resolve against Iran’s nuclear ambitions. The contradiction between public declarations and classified assessments underscores ongoing tensions between political messaging and on-the-ground realities.

The conflicting narratives are likely to deepen international scrutiny of U.S. and Israeli military strategies, while fueling speculation about Iran’s potential retaliation or underground enrichment activity. U.S.–Iran relations are expected to remain on edge, with Israel continuing to play a critical role in regional deterrence efforts.

Trump’s insistence on total destruction of Iranian nuclear infrastructure clashes with intelligence leaks and foreign assessments. The evolving situation raises questions about long-term containment of Iran’s nuclear program and the effectiveness of recent military actions.
