📄President Donald Trump has officially declared Kerr County, Texas, a major disaster area following heavy rainfall and severe flooding that struck the region earlier this week.

In a statement posted on his Truth Social account on July 6 (local time), President Trump announced, “I have just declared Kerr County, Texas, a Major Disaster Area to ensure our brave first responders receive the resources they need without delay.”

He added, “With so many lives lost and many others still missing, families are facing unimaginable tragedy. The Trump Administration is working closely with state and local leaders to provide immediate support.”

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has reportedly been working on-site with Texas Governor Greg Abbott since the day prior.

Central Texas has been severely affected by intense rainfall that began on July 4. The Guadalupe River, which originates in Kerr County and flows toward San Antonio, overflowed its banks, triggering deadly floods.

As of now, over 50 people have been confirmed dead, with search efforts still ongoing for the missing.

Given the scale of the disaster and ongoing extreme weather patterns across the U.S., further declarations of emergency may follow in neighboring counties. The federal response is expected to ramp up in coming days, with additional rescue and relief operations being deployed.
