The Court of Cassation in Abu Dhabi has ruled in favor of a former employee, ordering his employer to pay Dh59,290 in compensation for 13 years of unused annual leave.
The employee, who worked at the company from 2009 to June 2022, claimed he never took his entitled leave during that time. The employer failed to provide records to counter the claim, leading the court to award full compensation.
Legal experts say the decision sets a landmark precedent in UAE labour law, stressing the importance for employers to properly manage and document leave entitlements.
