Starting July 25, 2025, UAE banks will begin phasing out one-time passwords (OTPs) sent via SMS and email for financial transactions, transitioning to app-based authentication under new UAE Central Bank guidelines.
The full phase-out is expected by March 2026. This move aims to enhance digital banking security and protect users from cyber threats like SIM swapping and phishing.
Customers are advised to update their bank apps and enable in-app authentication.
The change aligns with the UAE’s broader digital transformation goals to modernize financial services and improve user safety.
