📄A shocking revelation has emerged from an upcoming book titled “2024: How Trump Regained the White House and How Democrats Lost America”, detailing a 2022 Iranian attempt to assassinate former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Paris. The book also uncovers multiple assassination threats against then-candidate Donald Trump during his presidential campaign.

According to The Washington Post, Iranian operatives allegedly tracked Pompeo’s location at a hotel in Paris in an attempt to kill him, but the effort failed. The book, authored by four current and former journalists, claims this was the first time this specific plot has come to light. Pompeo, known for his hardline stance on Iran during the Trump administration, had previously received U.S. intelligence protection due to threats from the Iranian regime.

Details on how the assassination attempt was thwarted remain unclear. However, in his memoir Not an Inch, Pompeo previously noted that a member of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was charged with offering $1 million to contract a hit on him.

The book also highlights multiple assassination threats directed at Trump during the 2024 presidential campaign. One incident in July involved a bullet grazing his face, while in another, a sniper was discovered near Mar-a-Lago with a high-powered rifle. Though it remains unconfirmed whether Iran was linked to these plots, the campaign team responded with heightened security measures.

Among them: Trump’s travel routes were altered, military-grade countermeasures were deployed at Mar-a-Lago, and Trump was advised to use a decoy aircraft owned by real estate executive and campaign official Steve Witkoff, now a U.S. envoy to the Middle East. Trump’s personal aircraft was reportedly diverted before takeoff due to a surface-to-air missile threat.

Security officials also warned campaign staff to avoid physical contact with mobile phones from supporters due to fears of chemical poisoning, with reports suggesting toxic substances could be hidden on the surface.

Trump himself, previously known for downplaying security concerns, installed chemical weapon detectors in his private office and deployed bomb-sniffing robots at Mar-a-Lago. His aides, including now–Deputy White House Chief of Staff James Blair, began wearing body armor and carrying firearms. Republican National Committee officials were stationed outside senior campaign members’ homes.

Campaign co-chair Chris LaCivita reportedly received three direct death threats. Staff stated that protecting Trump’s emotional state was a strategic concern: if denied his usual golf routine for security reasons, it could destabilize his campaign focus.

The book concludes that Trump saw his presidential victory not only as a political triumph but as a matter of survival. “You’ve got to win,” Trump reportedly told guests at Mar-a-Lago. “You’ve got to survive and win. If you don’t win, we’re all f***ed.”

Analysts believe that the revelations about Iran’s assassination plot and multiple security threats may reignite debate over U.S. policy toward Tehran and the enduring risks facing former Trump officials. The use of asymmetric methods by state actors like Iran—including assassination plots on foreign soil—underscores growing concerns about geopolitical spillovers into domestic U.S. politics.

The events detailed in the book illustrate a heightened level of physical threat in modern American political campaigns and highlight the blurred lines between international hostility and domestic vulnerability. It also underscores how intelligence and security operations are increasingly intertwined with electoral strategies.
