In the UAE, road accidents often result in delays due to motorists failing to follow traffic rules and obstructing emergency vehicles. Statistically, 630 violations were recorded in 2023 for obstructing traffic during accidents, with the majority in Dubai.
To raise awareness, Abu Dhabi Police launched the “Don’t hesitate—give way immediately” campaign. The campaign emphasizes that drivers must give way to emergency vehicles, especially when approaching intersections, roundabouts, and congested roads. A fine of Dh500 applies for obstructing traffic, while failing to give way to emergency vehicles incurs Dh3,000.
Drivers must adhere to clear guidelines when emergency vehicles approach: move to the right lane, avoid using the shoulder, and yield at roundabouts and intersections. Following these rules ensures quick access for emergency responders and can save lives.
