Hundreds of Wizz Air employees—including pilots, cabin crew, and management—are grappling with job insecurity following the airline’s abrupt decision to shut down its Abu Dhabi operations by September 2025. Many are now actively seeking local employment, hoping to remain in the UAE.
Despite the airline’s 20% year-on-year growth in 2024, Wizz Air cited geopolitical and regulatory challenges for its exit. While some staff were offered transfers to European bases like Malta, Hungary, and the UK, many prefer to stay in the UAE, which they now consider home.
“There was no prior warning,” one employee told Khaleej Times. “We were operating normally one day, then suddenly heard the base would close.” The lack of clarity from management has left employees stressed and uncertain.
